COTOÂ DEÂ CAZA, Calif. - Following two rounds of play Monday at the Orange County Collegiate Classic, the UC San Diego men's golf team is third of 10 teams and
Davis McDowell is second in the 59-player field.
CSU Fullerton and UC Irvine are co-hosting the tournament at the Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After 36 holes on the South Course, UC San Diego is 13-over par with a 589, logging a 291 in the morning round and a 298 in the afternoon.
Leading the team standings is CSU Fullerton, the lone team under par at -10. The Titans posted rounds of 281 and 285 for a 566 stroke total. Cal Poly sits in second place with a 580, four-over par on the par 72, 6,950-yard Coto de Caza course.
McDowell fired rounds of 66 and 73 for a five-under 139. He is five strokes back of the leader, Harry Doig from CSU Fullerton.
In the opening round, McDowell posted seven birdies and just a single bogey to go along with 10 pars. The sophomore started strong, birdying the first two holes and five of the first seven. His 66 was the lowest by any player in the first round. His second round consisted of two birdies, a bogey, a double-bogey, and 14 pars.
Senior
Elliot Bunyaviroch is also among the top-10, finishing with a two-over par 146 to end his day tied for 10th. Bunyaviroch shot rounds of 75 and 71.
There are eight Tritons competing in the tourney, five that count towards the team score and three playing as individuals.

• This was UC San Diego's first tournament since October of 2022.
• The Tritons held a 4.93 stroke average and were three-under on par-five holes, the third-best of any team.

Davis McDowell had a 3.95 stroke average and went one-under on par-four holes, the second-best of the day.
• Over 36 holes, McDowell racked up nine birdies (second-most) and 24 pars (seventh-most).
• The South Course played to a 76.22 stroke average.
• There are seven Big West teams in contention: Cal Poly, CSU Fullerton A, Cal State Fullerton B, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.Â
• This is the third-straight year that UC San Diego has competed in this tournament.
• In 2022, the Tritons placed seventh of 10 teams and McDowell finished a team-best 11th.
• In 2021, the Tritons placed seventh of seven teams and
Jerry Wu was the top finisher for the team, tying for 26th.
• The 2021 Orange County Collegiate Classic was UC San Diego's inaugural tournament as an NCAA Division I program.Â
