LA JOLLA, Calif.—For the third time this season, UC San Diego women's volleyball had two scholar-athletes earn Big West Player of the Week honors after going 2-0 in Big West play over the weekend.
Jasmine Saran was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week, while
Lauren Brooker was tabbed Big West Freshman of the week, as announced Monday by the conference.
It is the first career weekly honor for Saran and third this season for the freshman, Brooker. The Tritons have now had six weekly nods from the Big West this season and nine honors since joining the conference in 2021.
JASMINE SARAN » BIG WEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore
Jasmine Saran averaged 2.14 blocks and 1.14 digs per set to lead UC San Diego defensively in a 2-0 weekend. The middle blocker also averaged 2.43 kills per set and finished the weekend with 28.5 points which ranked second for the Tritons.
In Thursday's sweep at Cal State Fullerton, Saran led the team with six blocks, five digs and eight kills. On Saturday, Saran had a career day in a 3-1 victory over UC Irvine, recording a career-best nine blocks (2 solo), while leading the team in aces (3) and adding three digs. Saran also hit .643 in the contest with nine kills on 14 swings with no errors.
LAUREN BROOKER » BIG WEST FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Lauren Brooker averaged 5.86 assists, 1.57 kills and 1.86 digs, splitting time between opposite and setter in a 6-2 offense for the Tritons. The freshman recorded double-doubles in both of UC San Diego's contests and now has seven this season.
Brooker recorded 18 assists and 10 digs in Thursday's sweep at Cal State Fullerton and tallied a career-high 10 kills and added 23 assists in Saturday's 3-1 victory over UC Irvine. Brooker finished the weekend with 41 assists, 13 digs, 11 kills, three aces, three blocks and 16.0 points for the Tritons.
