Tritons Fall to Matadors on the Road

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – After remaining even for the entire game, the Tritons ultimately fell to the Matadors on a loose ball late in the match for the final result of 2-1.

The Tritons move to 4-9-3 overall and 3-3-1 in Big West play. UC San Diego holds 10 points along with three other teams for a four-way tie for third place. CSUN moves to 4-6-6 overall and 2-3-2 in the Big West they are currently in eighth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Remaining scoreless through the first 45, the Tritons were outshot by the Matadors 4-5. UC San Diego was able to earn three corner kicks but were foiled each time.

As the second half got underway, CSUN came out and scored immediately in the 46th minute. It wasn't until the 51st minute that the Tritons were able to respond. James Redington sent the ball from the right sideline to find Iñaki Iribarren in the box. Iribarren managed to bring the ball down and put it into the back of the net.

The teams remained even until the 85th minute when a loose ball was tapped in by CSUN. In the second 45 the Tritons managed three shots to the Matadors' 10. The host's pressure was too much for the gold and blue as they were unable to equalize in the remaining time.
