FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Following two rounds of play Monday the UC San Diego men's golf team is fifth of 15 teams in its first competition of the 2022-23 season.
The Tritons shot rounds of 282 and 284 and are 6-over par with a 566 after 36 holes at the Ram Masters Invitational.
Colorado State is hosting the 15-team tournament at Fort Collins Country Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Elliot Bunyaviroch sits in a tie for third place with a 4-under 136, just three strokes off the leader. The San Francisco native was tied for first place as one of four players that fired a 66 in the opening round. It was a career-best and it held up as the low round of the day. He followed that with an even-par 70 on the 7,218-yard layout.
Bunyraviroch made the highlight reel with a hole-in-one in the first round. He cupped his tee shot on the par-3, 190-yard second hole with a perfect 8-iron swing.

The hole-in-one was the first of three Monday. Shaun Campbell of Creighton and Kittiphong Phaithuncharoensuk from Texas A&M Commerce also accomplished the feat.
Three other Tritons are tied for 35th after day one.
Kyle Dougherty, playing in his first match for UC San Diego,
Davis McDowell, and
Ethan Chen all hold a 4-over par 144.
Davis Lee is tied for 71st with a 152.

THE LEADERS
Host Colorado State, ranked 70th in the country, leads the team standings with a 554, 6-under par. The Rams are four strokes ahead of second-place Cal State Fullerton and have won their own tournament in each of the last seven runnings. Jaren Calkins out of the University of Wyoming is the individual leader after totaling a 7-under 133. He leads Colorado State's Jay Pabin by a single stroke.Â
TRITON TIDBITS
• The par-70 course played to a 72.8 stroke average, which included a 73.04 in the first round.
• The previous low round for Bunyaviroch was a 69 in the third round of the San Diego Classic on March 8, 2022.
• Bunyaviroch leads the field in par-3 scoring with a 2.60 stroke average and a 4-under score.
• Dougherty and Bunyaviroch are tied for seventh in par-5 scoring with a 4.50 stroke average and a -3 score.
• Bunyaviroch also carded 11 birdies Monday. That total tied for the second-most.
• This is the second time the Tritons have played in the Ram Masters Invitational. They finished 13th of 16 in 2021.
• At last year's tourney in Fort Collins, Bunyaviroch tied for 19th after moving up 15 spots on the leader board following the final round.
