Three Former Tritons Heading to France with Team USA for FINA World League Super Final

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Three former UC San Diego men's water polo standouts will be with Team USA - two as players and one as a coach - as the squad heads to the FINA World League Super Final in France this week.

Kacper Langiewicz and Jack Turner will be in the water for the U.S. Men's National Team, while current Triton head coach Matt Ustaszewski will serve as an assistant coach.

The 2022 World League Super Final runs July 22-27 in Strasbourg, France. Team USA opens play by facing France on July 22 at 11 a.m. Pacific. They will also play Canada and Italy in group action before the quarterfinal round.

Live streaming will be available on the FINA YouTube page at  YouTube.com/FINA1908.

The U.S. men won a silver medal at the 2021 World League Super Final in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Langiewicz was on the Triton roster from 2015-19. As a junior in 2018, he was an All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Second Team member after scoring 35 goals, the second-most on the team. He also led UC San Diego with 53 drawn exclusions that season.

A goalkeeper for the Tritons, Turner is a three-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) First Team All-American and was named the 2018 ACWPC Division II Player of the Year as a junior. In addition, the 2019 team captain is a two-time All-WWPA First Team selection. He is second on UC San Diego's career saves list with 1,025. Turner made his U.S. Senior Team debut at the 2018 FINA World Cup. Most recently, Turner made 11 saves in the first half to help Team USA defeat Italy, 13-12, on July 12 in Irvine, Calif.

Ustaszewski became UC San Diego's head coach on July 1, 2022, as Denny Harper announced his retirement after 42 years leading the Tritons.

Most recently, Ustaszewski helped Team USA nab a sixth-place finish at the 2022 FINA World Championships, which were held June 24 through July 3 in Hungary. He has been with USA Water Polo since 2011, joining the Senior Team staff in 2018. Highlights with Team USA include serving as video coordinator and support staff at the 2020 Olympic Games, 2019 World Championships, 2021 World League Super Final (silver medal), and 2018 Intercontinental Cup (gold medal).

Ustaszewski served as UC San Diego's associate head coach for eight years and has been on staff for 12 years. He played for the Tritons in the early 2000's and was a team captain as a senior. Ustaszewski graduated in 2004 with a degree in history.

UC San Diego begins its 2022 campaign by hosting the Triton Invitational Sept. 3-4 at Canyonview Aquatic Center. Click here for the team's complete season schedule.
