LA JOLLA, Calif. — The UC San Diego men's basketball 2022-23 Big West conference schedule has been released, as announced Wednesday by the conference office. This season – UC San Diego's third in its four-year transition to NCAA Division I – will mark the first time the
conference will include the Tritons in its men's basketball standings.
The 20-game round-robin schedule will see each team play a home-and-home series between Dec. 29 and March 4. In addition to the regular Thursday/Saturday format, two Mondays and Wednesdays were utilized to accommodate the full schedule.
The Tritons will begin their third season in the Big West on Dec. 29, when they travel to Long Beach State. UC San Diego will wrap up the opening weekend with a visit to UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 31.
The start of the New Year will see UC San Diego return home to host three of its next four games at the
newly renamed LionTree Arena. The Tritons will welcome Hawai'i on Jan. 5 and UC Riverside on Jan. 11. After a visit to CSU Bakersfield on Jan. 14, UC San Diego is back home to take on UC Davis on Monday, Jan. 16.
Following the Monday affair vs. the Aggies, the Tritons will begin a stretch of three road games in four dates with a Jan. 19 contest at Cal Poly. UC San Diego will be right back home two days later to host Long Beach State before wrapping up January with a trip to CSUN (Jan. 26) and UC Riverside (Jan. 28).
Five of the Tritons' eight February games will be played at LionTree Arena, beginning with a Blue and Gold Rivalry match-up with UC Irvine on Feb. 2 – one of two February showdowns with the Anteaters. On Feb. 4, CSU Bakersfield comes to La Jolla to conclude that season series.
UC San Diego plays at Hawai'i on Feb. 9 and will enjoy a Saturday bye on the 11th. On Feb. 15, the Tritons are back home to square off with defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton. After hosting CSUN on Feb. 18, the Tritons visit UC Davis on Monday, Feb. 20.
UC San Diego closes out the month of February with games at UC Irvine (Feb. 23) and home vs. UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 25). The season's final weekend includes Senior Night on March 2 vs. Cal Poly and the regular season finale on Feb. 4 at Cal State Fullerton.
The Tritons concluded their 2021-22 season with a record of 13-16 overall and 7-11 vs. Big West opponents. In its final home game, UC San Diego downed eventual Big West champion Cal State Fullerton, 81-76. The sharp-shooting Tritons led the Big West in three-point field goal percentage as well as made three-pointers last season.
