Williams and Cecil Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced 381 student-athletes from 152 programs have received 2022 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. Sophomore Gabby Williams earned West Region First Team honors while freshman Jada Cecil earned West Region Second Team honors for UC San Diego. The pair are the first Tritons to earn Division I NFCA honors for UC San Diego as they are in their second year of reclassifying to Division I.

Earning First Team honors as a utility pitcher and designated player, Gabby Williams recorded 14 hits, nine RBI, seven runs, and had the third-highest slugging percentage for the Tritons. In the circle, she led the team and the Big West for saves with an ERA of 2.52 and 83 strikeouts in 94.1 innings of work. Williams earned Second Team honors from the Big West Conference for her work in the 2022 season.

Right-hander Jada Cecil has been dominant for the Tritons in her inaugural season in the circle. Tossing 230 strikeouts over 174.1 innings of work with an ERA of 1.62, Cecil went 20-4 in the regular season for the gold and blue. She has broken three records this season: the single-game high strikeouts, and the individual season-high strikeouts, and she assisted the pitching staff in snapping the 20-year-old team single-season strikeout record as well. Cecil was recently awarded Big West Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, making the conference First Team and All-Freshman team.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2022 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
