SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Following one round of play Monday at the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate Classic, the UC San Diego men's golf team sits in 11th place with
Davis Lee tied for 13th.
Windy conditions at Sandpiper Golf Club, located adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, forced the cancellation of the day's second round. Play will be picked up Tuesday morning with an 18-hole round and that will complete the tournament, which was originally slated for three rounds.
UC San Diego totaled a 307, 19-over par on the par-72, 7,040-yard layout.
Lee carded a 73, just a single stroke over par, to end his outing tied for 13th in the 84-player field. The sophomore is playing as an individual and his score does not count towards the Tritons' total.
The five players that do comprise UC San Diego's team contingent are
Davis McDowell (tied for 28th),
Ryan Vaughan (tied for 28th),
Francis Catalano (tied for 55th),
Elliot Bunyaviroch (tied for 63rd), and
Jared Gross (tied for 77th).
Other individuals from UC San Diego that are playing includeÂ
Ethan Chen (tied for 66th) and
Sergi Mata (82nd).
No teams finished under par for the day. CSUN leads the 14-team field with an even-par 288. Sacramento State is two strokes back in second place, while California Baptist and Weber State are tied for third, fives strokes behind the leader.
CSUN's Eirick Thomassen is in first place after shooting a 5-under par 67. Ethan Davidson of Sacramento State is second at 3-under and Rajvir Bedi from tournament host UC Santa Barbara is third at 2-under.
There are five Big West Conference squads competing including Cal Poly, CSUN, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.
Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. and action can be followed with
live scoring.
It is the second consecutive tournament for the Tritons that has been derailed because of inclement weather. Last week, the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in Washington was reduced to a single round on Tuesday as Monday's 36 holes of play were canceled after high winds pummeled the course.
