LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego shut out the Rainbow Wahine of Hawai'i in the Friday night opening game, 2-0.

Jada Cecil tossed a complete game for the Tritons and allowed no runs on two hits with 16 strikeouts and three walks. This is the second time this season that Cecil has broken the single-game strikeout record for UC San Diego.
The Tritons were led by second baseman
Isabel Lavrov who went 1-for-3 at the plate with one run on a solo-homerun in the sixth inning.
The Tritons move to 18-14 overall and 6-1 in conference, while the Rainbow Wahine drop to 11-11 overall and 5-2 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jada Cecil tossed a complete game for the Tritons, throwing 132 pitches tonight with an ERA of 1.48. She faced 28 batters tonight and retired 16 of them.
Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Tritons took the lead, 1-0. Capitalizing on a 'Bow error,
Zoe Richards was able to reach first. She then advanced to second on a single sent down the left field line from
Keila Bosinger. Richards and Bosinger each stole their respective bases with
Bobbi Aguirre at bat. With one out, Aguirre plated Richards on a ground out to second base.
The Triton's insurance run came in the bottom of the sixth, when
Isabel Lavrov sent a solo homerun over the left field fence on a 2-1 count.
In the top of the seventh, Cecil retired three out of the five Hawai'i batters to finalize the game.
TRITON TIDBITS
- Jada Cecil breaks the UC San Diego single-game high strikeout record for the second time this season and currently is 17th in the nation for total strikeouts (144). Cecil leads the Big West in total wins (12), opposing batting average (.152), strikeouts (144), and batters struck out looking (42).
- This is the fifth time the Tritons and Rainbow Wahine have faced one another; the Tritons move to 3-2 in their all-time vs. record.

UC San Diego is back tomorrow, April 2, to finish the Hawai'i series with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm. Both games will broadcast on ESPN+.
