UC San Diego Falls to Cal

LA JOLLA, Calif.  – UC San Diego dropped the final game of the San Diego Classic to California, 3-1. The Tritons are now 9-11 while Cal moves to 15-6.

The Tritons were led by first baseman Bobbi Aguirre who went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Gabby Williams got the start for UC San Diego and allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Jada Cecil came on in relief and allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts and one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego struck first in the bottom of the third. Mikaila Pancino capitalized on a Cal error to reach, and as the ball went out of play, she advanced to second. At the top of the order, Sophia Real laced a single up the middle and advanced to the second on the throw. Bobbi Aguirre then lined a hit down the left field line to plate Pancino and give the Tritons the lead.

The Tritons threatened again in the fourth with two singles up the middle by Deena Pederson and Clarissa Reynoso, however both were left stranded.

The Bears responded in the fifth with a three-run shot to left center, taking the lead 3-1.

UC San Diego had no response for the Bears pitching in the sixth or seventh.
