LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego went 2-0 against Princeton in their first doubleheader of the 2022 season.

In game one, the Tritons were led by second baseman
Isabel Lavrov who went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI.
Jada Cecil got the start in game one and allowed three runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Kaia Simpson came on in relief and allowed no runs, no hits, and recorded four strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, the Tritons were led by center fielder
Keila Bosinger who went 3-for-3 at the plate with one run, three RBIs; she was walked twice.
Shelby Thompson got the start in game two and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Gabby Williams relieved Thompson and allowed no runs on one hit with six strikeouts and one walk.

GAME ONE: UC SAN DIEGO 6, PRINCETON 3
UC San Diego struck early in the bottom of the first inning with three runs.
Sophia Real reached first on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a sac bunt by
Keila Bosinger. Then first baseman
Bobbi Aguirre doubled to center field advancing Real to third. Another double to center field from
Isabel Lavrov plated Real.
Deena Pederson battled through a full count to walk. A single laced up the middle by
Clarissa Reynoso plated Aguirre and Lavrov.
Kelley Renner battled six pitches to walk and advance Reynoso and Pederson, but all three were left stranded.

Princeton responded in the fourth with three runs to tie the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tritons struck again with another three-run inning. Lavrov walked on four pitches and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Pederson.
Marissa Hassis was also walked. She was able to get to second when Lavrov was caught stealing at third and then reached third on a wild pitch. Reynoso was the third Triton walked to reach. Pinch hitter
Zoe Richards recorded her first hit of the season with a single laced past the shortstop to plate Hassis and advance Reynoso into scoring position.
Kelley Renner reentered for Richards on first. Another Triton pinch hitter,
Reilly Erickson, sent a single to right field to plate Reynoso and advance Renner to third. Back at the top of the order, Real powered a single to right field to plate Renner.

Simpson held the Tigers hitless in the sixth and seventh to seal the Triton win.

GAME TWO: UC SAN DIEGO 8, PRINCETON 1
In the bottom of the first, the Tritons had the bases loaded with
Keila Bosinger,
Bobbi Aguirre, and
Gabby Williams. Bosinger singled out to right field while Aguirre and Williams were both walked.
Marissa Hassis was then able to reach on a dropped third strike error from the Tigers, plating Bosinger.

The Tigers responded in the second with one run and another tied game.

The Tritons went on to score in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. After ending the top of the third with a double play from Hassis,
Isabel Lavrov faced nine pitches and a full count to walk. On a line drive double to left field from Hassis, Lavrov was able to score.

In the fourth, after reaching on an error,
Mariah Melendez was able to advance into scoring position from a sac bunt by Real. Bosinger laced a single to plate Melendez, extending the lead to 3-1.

Morgan Eng's aggressive base running allowed the Tritons to score twice in the fifth. Eng pinch ran for
Alexa DeMarse, who laced a single to right field. Eng went on to steal second and third. Bases were loaded by Real and Bosinger who were both walked by the Tigers. On a wild pitch, all three Tritons advanced and Eng made a break for home to score. Princeton walked both Aguirre and Williams for a second time, this time plating Real.

Pinch hitter
Zoe Richards recorded her second hit of the season with a single to right field.
Kelley Renner came in to pinch run for Richards who was then plated by
Alexa DeMarse's single laced out to left field. With DeMarse on third from a wild pitch and Real on first after being walked, Bosinger was able to step in the box and slam a double to the center field fence and plate DeMarse and Real.

Williams held the Tigers scoreless from the fourth inning on to secure the Triton victory. This 11th victory of the season marks associate head coach
Cristina Byrne's 200th win of her career.

"Our pitching staff had a great outing today," said head coach
Patti Gerckens. "The combinations of starters and relievers kept the Princeton batters off-balance throughout both games."

Kaia Simpson recorded a combination of 13 strikeouts of the 27 batters the duo faced.
Shelby Thompson and
Gabby Williams allowed a combination of only one run on four hits. The pair recorded seven strikeouts total and only one walk. UC San Diego's pitching staff faced a total of 51 batters today, while the Tigers' pitching staff faced 73.
