UC San Diego Announces 2023 Baseball Schedule

The Tritons begin the season Feb. 17 at the MLB First 4 Tournament

LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego head coach Eric Newman has announced the 2023 baseball schedule. The nonconference slate features two tournaments to start the season and a 18-game home stand that stretches into the beginning of Big West-play.

"I'm really excited for our program this season," said Newman. "We have an awesome opportunity to introduce our program to a more national audience in the MLB First 4 Tournament. The following weekend we are grateful to be a part of the Tony Gwynn Legacy honoring what Tony Gwynn meant to baseball in the city. The Big West schedule is always a challenge with the great coaches and players in this league. We are definitely looking forward to the challenge this schedule presents and bring some really exciting college baseball to campus, with the hope that the community will enjoy coming to Triton Ballpark and seeing us play."

UC San Diego's schedule features 52 games, including 30 contests hosted in Triton Ballpark. The Tritons will host two nonconference three-game series early in the season, as well as five Big West series.

The Tritons will open the season with back-to-back tournaments, first traveling to Phoenix, Ariz. for the MLB4 Tournament hosted by the MLB Network. The three-day event will take place at Salt River Fields—the spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies—beginning Feb. 17-19. Opponents for the tournament will be announced at a later date. UC San Diego will wrap up the road trip with a Monday matchup at Arizona on Feb. 20.

UC San Diego will return home to begin a stretch of 18 consecutive contests in Triton Ballpark, starting with the Tony Gwynn Legacy co-hosted with San Diego State and USD. The Tritons will host UNLV, North Dakota State and Washington State for the weekend tournament Feb. 24-26. UC San Diego will cap off the weekend with a Monday matchup with North Dakota State (Feb. 27).

Additionally, the Tritons will host two more nonconference series against Santa Clara (March 3-5) and Northern Colorado (March 10-12).

The Big West slate begins with back-to-back home series against Long Beach State (March 17-19) and CSU Bakersfield (March 24-26).

The extended home stand will conclude March 28 with the first of four midweek contests against San Diego State. Other home midweek contests include UC Riverside (March 14), USD (April 4) and BYU (May 2). The Tritons will travel to face USC on April 25.

The remaining home conference series will be against UC Davis (April 6-8), UC Santa Barbara (April 21-23) and CSUN (May 5-7). The Tritons will hit the road for series against UC Irvine (March 31-April 2), Hawai'i (April 14-16), Cal Poly (April 28-30), Cal State Fullerton (May 12-14) and wrap up the season at UC Riverside (May 19-21).

Tickets for the 2023 season are set to go on sale Monday, Dec. 12.

The Tritons will return a wealth of experience from the 2022 team that finished 24-32 overall and 13-17 in Big West competition, including All-Big West Second Team honorees Emiliano Gonzalez and Jalen Smith. UC San Diego will also add a handful of talented newcomers as the Tritons enter their third season of Division I competition.
