With 2022 coming to a close, UCSDTritons.com takes a look back at the top 25 stories on our site in 2022. The stories were selected based on number of page views as well editorial input from the Athletic Communications staff.

Today, we look back at the top thirteen from June through December. The first half of 2022 was featured on Thursday.

June 3 | Resiliency, Defense, and a Master’s Degree


After four years in the pool at UC San Diego, Taylor Onstott has cemented herself as a standout as the women's water polo program has transitioned into the Big West era. A four-time All-American honoree, an All-Big West selection in 2022, and a UC San Diego Athlete of the Year in 2020, she has either led or finished second on the team in steals in each of her four seasons.

June 5 | Family Spelled T-R-I-T-O-N-S


After combining to coach UC San Diego Track & Field for over half a century, Tony Salerno and Darcy Ahner's final meet at the helm was always going to be something special. A week after three athletes set UC San Diego records in the 2022 season's final competition, over 400 current and former Tritons came together for the Blue Gold Alumni Celebration meet, also known as Tony and Darcy's retirement party.

June 7 | Former Triton Appears on NBC TODAY to Discuss Music, Mental Health


Emily Beihold '20 was a star scholar-athlete for the Tritons' fencing team. These days, she's quickly becoming a music star as Em Beihold and she recently got a taste of being a television star as well.

June 15 | RIMAC Arena Named LionTree Arena in Recognition of Scholarship Gift


UC San Diego announced that RIMAC Arena has been named LionTree Arena in recognition of a $5 million gift for scholar-athletes from LionTree, an independent investment and merchant bank with expertise in technology, media and the digital economy. LionTree was founded by UC San Diego alumnus Aryeh B. Bourkoff, who also serves as the firm's CEO.

June 20 | Renner, Djordjevic Represent Team Philippines at FINA World Championships


UC San Diego rising senior, Miranda Renner heads to Budapest, Hungary with head coach Marko Djordjevic and Team Philippines to compete in the 19th Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) World Games.

July 14 | Brown, Franke Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year


UC San Diego announced that Sydney Brown and Ciara Franke have been nominated for 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. The NCAA Announced its full list of potential award winners.

Aug. 3 | Hurdles & History


It is impossible to tell the story of UC San Diego track and field star Zeinab Torabi without mentioning family. For starters, her father Emil, who played a key role in her choice to attend UC San Diego, was himself a volleyball player for the Tritons. When Zeinab, a team captain for the past two seasons, talks about her squad and her coaches, she refers to them not only as teammates and mentors, but as a family. Finally, off the track, there is her Afghan heritage: a family history so rich you could write a book about it. In fact, she is doing just that.

Sept. 13 | Cohen Debuts in UEFA Champions League
 

UC San Diego's keeper, Josh Cohen '14, is the sole American college player currently competing with nine other Americans in the UEFA Champions League.

Sept. 30 | Center Back Bringing Algae Back
 

Katelyn Meyer of UC San Diego Women's Soccer has made her face on the team a recognizable one thanks in part to her engagement on the pitch for every minute of the 2021 season, a trend that has continued throughout 2022 as well.

Oct. 7 | Denver Nuggets Conclude Second Preseason Camp at UC San Diego
 

The NBA'S Denver Nuggets recently concluded their preseason camp on the UC San Diego campus. For the second year in a row, the Nuggets utilized UC San Diego's LionTree Arena for a week-long training as they prepared for the 2022-23 season. The organization also trained at UC San Diego in the fall of 2021.

Nov. 15 | Tritons Down Cal For Second Straight Season
 

UC San Diego built an 18-point first half advantage and hung on for a 64-62 victory over visiting California in front of a record crowd of 3,071 at LionTree Arena. Leading by just one in the final moments, Bryce Pope buried a three with the shot clock winding down and just 10.9 seconds remaining to propel the Tritons to the win.

Nov. 23 | Friendship Goals
 

UC San Diego men's soccer players Nick Shor, Jonah Kawamura, and Evan Wellerstein have more in common than matching uniforms and an unruly passion for soccer. 

Dec. 19 | Latkovic Earns All-America Accolades
 

UC San Diego men's water polo standout Vedran Latkovic earned Division I All-America Honorable Mention accolades from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) as the organization announced its annual awards.
