LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego men's water polo standout
Vedran Latkovic earned Division I All-America Honorable Mention accolades from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) as the organization announced its annual awards Monday.
Latkovic, a senior, led the Tritons in goals (79), points (101), and shots (121) and was fourth on the team with 18 steals.
Playing in all 27 of the team's games, he scored at least once in 25 of those and netted multiple goals in 21 contests. In early November, he found the back of the net a career-high eight times in a win over 10th-ranked UC Irvine on Senior Night at Canyonview Aquatic Center. Earlier in the season, he totaled eight points on six goals and a pair of assists against No. 8 UC Santa Barbara during UC San Diego's Triton Invitational.
Latkovic, a native of Montenegro, ended his collegiate career with a 20-game scoring streak.
Latkovic was also named to the All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) First Team as well as the WWPA All-Tournament Team in 2022. Among all conference players, he ranked second in goals scored, third in goals per game, fourth in points per game, and fifth in total points. At the WWPA Championship, Latkovic finished with 10 goals to lead the Tritons to the title game.
"Vedran would be the first to tell you that these honors are representative of the accomplishments made by the entire team," said head coach Matt Ustaszewski. "Veki and the rest of his senior classmates helped establish us as one of the top teams in the nation. He was a leader for us all year long and we are really proud that he has been acknowledged as an All-American."
Latkovic was an All-WWPA Second Team performer in 2021.
Over his two seasons at UC San Diego, Latkovic registered 170 points on 132 goals and 38 assists.
