LA JOLLA, Calif. – Four Tritons scored in double figures but it wasn't enough as Seattle U earned an 85-71 victory over UC San Diego Monday night inside LionTree Arena in the 2022-23 season opener for both teams. Redhawks guard Cameron Tyson scored a career high 35 points in the victory.

Emmanuel Tshimanga, 11 from
J'Raan Brooks, and ten from freshman
Roddie Anderson III.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Seattle U came out firing, knocking down four of its first six shot attempts from three-point range. The Redhawks built an 18-5 lead less than five minutes into the contest. The Redhawks were up 33-20 before UC San Diego went on a 7-0 run to get back in it.
Freshman point guard Roddie Anderson's driving layup on a fast break drew the Tritons to within six, 33-27 with four minutes left in the half.
UC San Diego drew to within four at 33-29 before Seattle U closed the half on a 9-0 run. Cameron Tyson led all scorers with 22 in the first half.
Bryce Pope paced the Tritons with eight with newcomer
Emmanuel Tshimanga adding seven.
The Tritons held a 15-2 advantage in first half bench points.
In the second half, Tshimanga continued to make an impact for the Tritons off the bench.
However, the Redhawks rebuilt their lead, going up by 14. UC San Diego answered with a 6-0 run to draw to within eight at 58-50 but could get no closer.
The Tritons shot 47% overall but connected on just 5-of-20 three-point tries.
