LA JOLLA, Calif. – Four UC San Diego scholar-athletes were honored by The Big West when the conference's men's soccer awards were announced on Tuesday afternoon. Graduate student defender

Alessandro Allen were named All-Big West Second Team while graduate student forward
Nick Cirrito was recognized as All-Big West Honorable Mention.
A native of El Dorado Hills, Sonenstein started all 19 matches for the Tritons in 2022, anchoring the back line for 1,476 minutes on the pitch as one of the team's captains. The defender's collegiate-career goal came on October 15 vs. Cal Poly when he scored off a set play from a corner kick with a precise header into the back of the net. The captain was the only Triton defender to score in the 2022 campaign. He was also a member of The Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2021.
The Tritons keeper led The Big West in all four categories for most of the season and ended as the leader in two: goals against avg. (.903) and saves (.811). A Santa Clara product, Peters earned BW Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 19 and was then nationally recognized on the Top Drawer Soccer National Men's Soccer Team of the Week. He earned these honors after recording a career-high 12 saves vs. crosstown foe, San Diego State. Peters earned four clean sheets this season and played 1,395 minutes in goal making a total of 60 saves.
Midfielder Allen was a staple to the Tritons' attack formation all season long. Taking 22 shots this season, he put eight on frame and scored one goal with four assists. He is tied for fifth in The Big West for the most assists this season. The Maryland product started 16 games this season competing for 811 minutes. On September 4, Allen earned his first collegiate penalty kick success against Cal. The goal was critical in tying with the NorCal foe. He was also a member of The Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2021.
Cirrito played a total of 1,046 minutes for the Tritons as he led the attack as a veteran forward for the team. The Diamond Bar product led UC San Diego with four goals scored, with those four goals he is tied for fifth in The Big West for goals scored. He took 20 shots this season with nine on frame. The forward earned his second penalty kick attempt and score against Cal Poly, he is 2-2 on PKs in his career. Cirrito earned a career-high two goals against Pacific at the beginning of the season. He was also a member of The Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2021.
The Tritons completed their second Division I season with a 4-5 mark in Big West play and 8-8-2 overall with a notable season win over #22 Santa Clara.
