Pair of Tritons Earn All-Big West recognition

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Two UC San Diego scholar-athletes were honored by The Big West when the conference's women's soccer awards were announced on Saturday afternoon. Senior center back Katelyn Meyer was named All-Big West Second Team while junior forward Kennedy Carter was recognized as All-Big West Honorable Mention.

A native of Campbell, Meyer started all 19 matches for the Tritons in 2022, anchoring the back line for all 1,710 minutes on the pitch. She the only Triton to play every minute of the season. Coupled with playing every minute of the 2021 season as well, Meyer's 3,299 consecutive minutes played over the last two seasons ranks second nationally. On October 10, Meyer became the first Triton to earn Big West weekly recognition when she was named Defensive Player of the Week. She was Big West Honorable Mention following the 2021 campaign.

Carter ranked second on the team with three goals and seven points. The Mission Viejo native helped lead the Tritons' offensive push the last two seasons after playing as a defender for University of Utah her freshman season. A team captain in 2022, Carter's eight goals scored are the most of any UC San Diego player in the program's brief Division I era.

The Tritons completed their second Division I season with a 2-4-4 mark in Big West play. UC San Diego earned a win or draw in seven of its nine road matches in 2022.
