Tritons Finish Day One of Season Opener

LOS ANGELES – The UC San Diego swim team opened the 2022-23 season at the two-day USC Invitational. Through the first 10 events, both Triton squads lead MPSF conference counterpart, Hawai'i, after day one of the invite. The men are ahead by one point at 47.00 and the women are ahead by 13 points at 53.00.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
On the men's side, the 400-yard medley relay team made up of Nathan Lee, Luke Pusateri, Chad Morrison, and Andrija Petkovic, finished fourth over three Hawai'i squads and an Auburn squad. The team posted a 3:17.18 time, winning 32 points for UC San Diego. In the 500-yard freestyle, the Tritons took fifth, sixth, and seventh with Ivan Kurakin leading the way. Kurakin posted a 4:23.48 time with Devin Esser behind him at 4:28.15 and Luigi Franco at 4:30.07. Lee took seventh for the gold and blue in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a 49.42 time.
 
On the women's side, in the 400-yard medley relay, Jordan Phillips, Katja Pavicevic, Miranda Renner, and Tina Reuter finished fifth over two Hawai'i squads to win 32 points for the Tritons. Finishing sixth in the 500-yard freestyle, Juli Arzave posted a 4:52.65 time, milliseconds behind fifth and fourth. In the 200-yard IM relay, Reuter finished third three seconds behind the second-place finisher with a blazing time of 2:02.11. Pavicevic finished two seconds behind Reuter to take sixth after two Auburn swimmers.
 
UP NEXT
The Tritons return tomorrow, Oct. 15, to wrap up the second day of the USC Invitational in Los Angeles with Hawai'i and Auburn.
