Meyer Named Big West Defensive Player of the Week

UC San Diego center back anchors back line which allowed but one goal last week

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego center back Katelyn Meyer was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Triton to earn a women's soccer weekly honor from the conference office. The program is in the home stretch of its second Division I season.

Last week, Meyer anchored a back line that surrendered just one score over two matches: a scoreless draw at UC Santa Barbara Thursday night and a 3-1 victory over Hawai'i on Sunday afternoon. An All-Big West Honorable Mention selection in 2021, Meyer has proven to be a stalwart for UC San Diego on the back line. She has played all 1,350 minutes this season after playing all 1,589 minutes of the 2021 campaign.

Meyer will celebrate a birthday on Tuesday before she and her Triton teammates host first place Long Beach State on Thursday night at Triton Soccer Stadium.
