LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego men's and women's swim teams came out on top at the dual meet versus California Baptist on Saturday, Jan. 29th. The men won with a score of 172-117 while the Triton women won with a score of 167-128. Before the meet began, the Triton seniors on both squads were celebrated and honored. The Tritons women's team is now 5-2 in dual meets and the men are 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After winning in 10 events last weekend, the Triton men's squad took 11 events today; a relay and 10 individual events. For the 400 yard medley relay:
Tyler James,
Aidan Simpson,
Spencer Daily, and
Nate Cunnan, took first with a time of 3:19.26. This squad was 1.72 seconds away from the pool record.
In addition,
Jackson Bernstein posted a 9:46.16 to take first in the 1000 yard freestyle.
Ivan Kurakin placed first in the 200 yard freestyle with a swim time of 1:37.81, beating the pool record by a hundredth of a second. Taking first in the 100 yard backstroke,
Tyler James posted a 50.40 swim. In the 200 yard butterfly, the Triton men took the top four slots with
Chad Morrison taking first with a swim time of 1:54.28.
Spencer Daily and
Nate Cunnan took first and second place respectively in the 50 yard freestyle swimming a 20.33 and 21.02.
Andrija Petkovic took first in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a 46.19. Swimming a 1:51.81,
Nathan Lee took first in the 200 yard backstroke.
Aidan Simpson finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:02.64. Similar to the 200 yard butterfly, the Triton men took the top four slots again in the 500 yard freestyle led by seniors
Ivan Kurakin and
Hayden Johnson; posting a 4:30.04 and 4:36.37.
Spencer Daily placed first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 49.34.
The Triton women took 10 first place finishes; one relay and nine individual events.
Jordan Phillips,
Katja Pavicevic,
Valerie Yue, and
Brittney Miles finished first in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:48.00; 0.5 seconds from beating the pool record.
In the individual events,
Sophie Francis took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a swim time of 1:53.58. In the 100 yard backstroke, the Triton women took the top three spots with
Alana Barthel finishing first posting a 57.67. Barthel also finished first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.06.
Katja Pavicevic swam a 1:03.56 in the 100 yard breaststroke to finish first. Pavicevic also finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing with the time of 2:17.96.
Katie Cho swam a 2:05.56 to win the 200 yard butterfly.
Jordan Phillips took the 50 yard freestyle with a swim time of 23.88.
Tina Reuter swam a 52.40 in the 100 yard freestyle to finish first. Taking the top five spots in the 100 yard butterfly, the Triton women were led by
Jordan Phillips, who swam a 55.67 for a first place finish.
Diver
Kyland Parenti placed second in the men's one-meter diving.

The Triton men will be back home next Friday, Feb. 4th at Canyonview Aquatic Center to host Cal beginning at 2:00 pm.
