Tritons Complete Weekend Sweep of Fullerton

Mikey Howell establishes new UC San Diego record for career assists

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego senior Mikey Howell dished out 13 assists to become the program's all-time leader, and junior Toni Rocak scored a career-high 26 off the bench as UC San Diego downed Cal State Fullerton, 85-78, Saturday evening in RIMAC Arena to complete the weekend sweep.

The Tritons conclude their debut Division I season with a 7-10 overall record (4-8 vs. Big West schedule) while Cal State Fullerton fell to 6-9.

Known for feeding his teammates, Mikey Howell came out firing and scored eight quick points on a pair of three pointers and a bucket to put his team in front, 14-13.

Down five, UC San Diego went on a 9-0 run to pull in front, 33-29, with 4:40 left in the half. The Titans responded with a 10-2 spurt to close the first half and take a 39-35 lead into halftime.

Toni Rocak paced the Tritons with 11 first half points. Howell added 10 and four assists. UC San Diego hit 52% of its shots and Fullerton connected on 50%.

Down a bucket early in the second, Howell found a cutting Rocak who threw down a dunk to tie the score at 40.

With 11:39 left, Howell dished to Kaden Rasheed who converted a fast break layup to put UC San Diego on top, 55-54. That was Howell's eighth assist of the game and number 497 of his career, sending him past Darvin Jackson '92 atop the Tritons' record book.

Rocak hit nine of his final 10 shots and finished with a career-high 26 on 12-of-16 shooting. The Tritons shot 68% after halftime and scored 48 points in the paint in the win.

Return To Sport…Safely
In order for UC San Diego scholar-athletes to be permitted to return to training and competition safely and within federal, state, local, and university guidelines, the athletic department implemented a number of measures designed to complement and enhance the university's highly-successful Return To Learn program. Notable actions include being physically distanced when practical, including during out-of-season training sessions; wearing masks, except when undergoing physically strenuous exercise; and maintaining proper hygiene. Athletes, coaches, and staff are testing at a higher frequency than the campus population, teams adhere to CDC, NCAA, and Big West Conference guidelines, and department officials participate in regular meetings with conference and university-affiliated physicians and the UC San Diego emergency operations staff.
