Offense Explodes, Tritons Roll Past Flames Inside RIMAC

UC San Diego Knocks Down Season-High 22 Threes in the Win

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego drained a season-best 22 three-point field goals as the Tritons rolled to a 101-64 victory over visiting Bethesda on Sunday afternoon inside RIMAC Arena.  The 22 made threes also established a new Big West Conference single game record.
 
The Tritons improve to 4-5 with the victory.
 
The Tritons connected on four of their first ten tries from beyond the arc, building a 20-12 lead with 11:28 left in the first half. Senior Martin Tombe came in and scored eight in six minutes off the bench.

UC San Diego built a 50-23 lead at halftime, with 12 of its 17 first-half field goals consisting of the three-point variety. The Tritons registered 14 first-half assists on those 17 field goals, led by four from senior Mikey Howell.
 
Senior Gabe Hadley scored 12 in the first half to lead the way, with grad transfer Jake Killingsworth adding 11. 15 of UC San Diego's points came from the bench.
 
As the second half began, the Tritons remained hot from long range, at one point connecting on 10-of 11 threes from late in the first half through much of the second.
 
Four Tritons finished in double figures, led by 23 from Hadley, who connected on 7-of-8 three-point tries. Tombe and redshirt freshman Bryce Pope scored 14 apiece and Killingsworth added 11. Tombe's 14 and four three-pointers are both career highs.

  • Sunday's effort marked the most points the Tritons have scored in a game since they scored a program-record 118 in a win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Feb. 28, 2019.
  • UC San Diego set a season-high with 22 three-pointers. The program record is 24, which was also set in that win over Cal State Monterey Bay in 2019.
  • The Tritons out-rebounded the Flames, 46-32, marking the first time this season UC San Diego held an edge on the glass.
  • Led by Tombe and junior Trace Ramsey's personal-best eight, UC San Diego's bench scored a season-high 44 points.
  • Junior Toni Rocak pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
  • The game is marked as an exhibition for the Flames, who are 0-2.
 
UP NEXT
UC San Diego returns to Big West Conference action on Feb. 12 for the first of two at CSU Bakersfield. Tip-off both Friday and Saturday is scheduled for 7 p.m., and both games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
