ST. GEORGE, Utah – UC San Diego kept up the momentum heading into day two of the 2021 Trailblazer Invitational, hosted by Dixie State, on Friday.
Coming off solid rankings from day one, UC San Diego saw strong performances from its relays with new team records set by both the women's and men's 200 Medley Relay. Some individual team records were also surpassed by
Ivan Kurakin and
Tyler James.
Session #3 – Friday, Nov. 19 (10 a.m.) -- prelims
MEN'S
Ivan Kurakin stood out for the Tritons and secured the top spot in the 200 Free while
Hayden Johnson followed just over a second behind in third.
Clocking in at 47.07 in the 100 Fly,
Spencer Daily clenched the second slot in the prelims while
Tyler James came in second during the 100 Back.
WOMEN'S
Miranda Renner took the fourth spot of the 100 Breast as well as the fifth spot for the 100 Fly prelims followed closely by
Jordan Phillips and
Lexi DePaco claiming the seventh and eight slots.
Tied for the third prelim spot,
Tina Reuter finished the 400 IM with a time of 4:26.31. Not too far behind in sixth was
Katja Pavicevic with just over an additional 3 seconds on top of Reuter's timing.
Finishing the 200 Yard Free
Ciara Franke secured the second slot just three tenths of a second before
Juli Arzave's timing of 1:51.52.
Session #4 – Friday, Nov. 19 (5 p.m.) -- Finals
MEN'S
Earning UC San Diego two top spots,
Spencer Daily landed first in the 100 Fly while
Ivan Kurakin set a new team record leading the 200 Free.
Tyler James as well had a strong performance, setting a team record and rearning second place in the 100 Back finals.
A group of
Tyler James,
Luke Pusateri,
Spencer Daily, and
Nate Cunnan placed second in the 200 Medley Relay and set two team records in one race alone.
WOMEN'S
The Tritons' secured the top spot in both team relays for the women.
Jordan Phillips,
Katja Pavicevic,
Miranda Renner, and
Brittney Miles clenched the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:39.85 while
Juli Arzave,
Ciara Franke,
Aneta Wyzga, and
Tina Reuter came in first for the 800 Free Relay.
Advancing from their morning performances,
Katja Pavicevic landed first in the 100 Breast with
Miranda Renner proceeding in second.
