ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Tritons took part in day one of the 2021 Trailblazer Invitational, hosted by Dixie State, on Thursday.
With impressive performances from
Juli Arzave,
Katja Pavicevic,
Ivan Kurakin, and
Spencer Daily, UC San Diego holds spots in the top five in nine out of ten events on day one.
Both the men and women's teams claimed the top spot in the 200 Free Relay, setting the Tritons up for a successful weekend.
Session #1 – Thursday, Nov. 18 (10 a.m.)
500 Freestyle (prelims)
Out of 68 women,
Juli Arzave lead the 500 Free with a prelim time of 4:52.41. Following close behind,
Ciara Franke came in third while
Ellie Whitney finished not much after in eighth with a time of 5:00.59.
UC San Diego's
Ivan Kurakin set a team record, posting a second place for the men with a time of 4:21.38. Both
Hayden Johnson and
Ryan Kirton landed in the top 8 out of 25 competitors.
200 IM (prelims)
With a time of 2:01.86,
Katja Pavicevic held the second place slot for the Tritons whereas
Tina Reuter followed in third less than a second behind.
In the men's 200 IM,
Nathan Lee held the top spot for the Tritons, claiming seventh out of a total 33 individuals.
50 Freestyle (prelims)
Miranda Renner held the fifth spot with a time of 23.45 while
Brittney Miles with a time of 23.52 claimed seventh.
Spencer Daily clenched the second slot with a time of 19.86. Teammates Nathaniel Cunnan and
Tyler James followed within half a second.
Session #2 – Thursday, Nov. 18 (5 p.m.)
200 Freestyle Relay (finals)
UC San Diego takes first in the women 200 Free Relay with a group of
Brittney Miles,
Jordan Phillips,
Miranda Renner, and
Tina Reuter.
Tyler James, Nathaniel Cunnan,
Andrija Petkovic, and
Spencer Daily all pulled through together to give the Tritons the top spot in the men's relay as well.
500 Freestyle (finals)
Coming in with a time of 4:48.84
Juli Arzave beats her morning time and leads the women's 500 Free.
Following the morning session,
Ivan Kurakin held the second slot for the Tritons. Closely behind was
Hayden Johnson in fourth.
200 IM (finals)
Tina Reuter finished in second for the women's 200 IM while
Nathan Lee comes in sixth.
50 Freestyle (finals)
Claiming the fourth spot is
Miranda Renner with a time of 23.22 followed close behind by
Brittney Miles with a time of 23.61.
Spencer Daily moves up and is awarded first in the men's 50 Free with a time of 19.62.
400 Medley Relay (finals)
UC San Diego's
Alana Barthel,
Katja Pavicevic,
Jordan Phillips, and Tine Reuter work together in claiming the second spot for the women's 400 Medley Relay while the men's group consisting of
Tyler James,
Luke Pusateri,
Spencer Daily, and
Andrija Petkovic earn the second spot for the men's.
