LA JOLLA, Calif.—The UC San Diego swimming and diving team cruised past Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Tritons' 2021-22 home opener. The men earned a 164-123 victory, while the women came out on top 173-119 on Saturday afternoon at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

MEN
The men swept the 200- and 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breaststroke and the team of
Nathan Lee,
Josh He,
Spencer Daily and
Mitchell Stoddard took first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.24.

It was a strong day for
Tyler James,
Luke Pusateri and
Hayden Johnson who all earned multiple first-place finishes. James took first in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while Pusateri finished first in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Johnson took home first-place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle.

Additionally,
Ivan Kurakin placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:18.53.
Zack Reuter took the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.78 and
Devin Esser took the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:38.59.
Spencer Daily placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.09.

Kyland Parenti earned first place in the men's 1-meter competition with a score of 253.50.

WOMEN
The women swept five events on the day including the 1000-, 500-, 100- and 50-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard backstroke.

The Tritons took first and second in a thrilling 200-yard medley relay with times of 1:48.22 and 1:48.26. The top squad consisted of
Alana Barthel,
Madison Mitchell,
Teagan Monroe and
Juli Arzave, while the second-place team was
Mackenzie Lee,
Katja Pavicevic,
Josi Platalla and
Josette Odgers.Â

Jordan Phillips placed first in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle, while
Miranda Renner took the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly.
Ellie Whitney also took home two victories, placing first in the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle.

Sophie Francis finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.01, while
Tina Reuter took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.99.
Alana Barthel took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.57 and Jojo Odgers placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.15.

In the women's 1-meter competition,
Isabella Perez placed second (229.20) and
Jasmyn Cheng took third (222.85).

UP NEXT
The Tritons will remain home to begin MPSF competition with back-to-back meets hosted at Canyonview Aquatic Center. The UC San Diego women will play host to UC Davis on Oct. 30 at 12 p.m. (PT) and both the men and women will compete against UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. (PT).
