Tritons Take Down Titans in Four

LA JOLLA, Calif.—Four Tritons had at least 10 kills to lift the UC San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-1 Big West Conference victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.

Scores were 26-24, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-21.

The Tritons are now 7-12 overall and 4-4 in the Big West, while the Titans fell to 6-9 and 3-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman middle Emily McDaniel paved the way for UC San Diego offensively, finishing with a match-high 14 kills and a .379 hitting percentage. She also added three blocks (one solo), three digs, and a pair of service aces.

Freshman outside Zaria Henderson followed with 13 kills. She completed a double-double with 10 digs while also putting down three aces.

Senior opposite Trinity Castaneda had 12 kills and three blocks (two solos) and sophomore outside Ava McInnes logged 10 kills to go along with 14 digs and four blocks (one solo).

For the third time this season, senior setter Isabela Dobra registered 50 or more assists, finishing with 50 tonight. She picked up another double-double with 19 digs.

Junior libero Naya Dong led UC San Diego with 20 digs.

As a team, the Tritons hit .194 with 60 kills and 24 errors in 186 attack attempts.

Cal State Fullerton hit .144 with 51 kills and 25 errors in 181 swings. Julia Crawford had 13 kills and Makena Ala'-ilima Daley followed with 12. Neena Dimas led all players with 21 digs. Nicole Shuhandler had four blocks (two solos).

The match featured several long rallies, evidenced by 175 total digs - 90 by UC San Diego and 85 by Cal State Fullerton.

UC San Diego plays its next two matches on the road. The Tritons travel to the Central Coast to take on Cal Poly on Friday, October 22 before heading to Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, October 23. Both Big West matches start at 7 p.m.
