UC San Diego Unveils New Court Design for RIMAC Arena

LA JOLLA, Calif. – With UC San Diego Athletics beginning the transition to NCAA Division I over the summer, the Tritons have unveiled a new-look for the floor at RIMAC Arena. The court design features a sleek, modern look, paying homage to UC San Diego's proximity to the Pacific Ocean as well as proudly promoting the program's membership in the Big West Conference. At midcourt, the UC San Diego word mark and recognizable trident logo are prominently displayed.

RIMAC Arena's four primary tenants – men's and women's basketball and men's and women's volleyball – all compete in the Big West.

UC San Diego worked with The Maude Group to design the new floor and Geary Floors, Inc. completed the installation.

The new-look floor is part of an on-going renovation to the building, which opened in 1995. In the first phase of the arena's renovation, improved fan experience items such as new retractable bleachers, a glass "see-through" railing system between the concourse and seating areas and the construction of a skybox that accommodates approximately 100 guests were implemented. In addition, a state-of-the-art 50' w x 15' h Daktronics video display and scoreboard, as well as LED display scorer's tables were also added to the venue. With that installation, video production is now controlled from the 300 square foot Dana Chaiken Production Studio which accommodates multi-camera, high definition live event broadcast productions that regularly air on ESPN3.

RIMAC Arena opened in January 1995 as part of the RIMAC Complex that includes Triton Soccer Stadium, Triton Softball Field, intramural and club sports fields and RIMAC Annex. Upon its completion, the complex was the largest among NCAA Division III athletic programs.

The Arena accommodates nearly 4,000 fans for Triton basketball and volleyball events and can be expanded to approximately 4,500 for concerts, guest speakers and other similar events that utilize floor seating. Floor space for the 44,000 sq ft arena can be divided into five basketball courts, which have been used in previous years by several National Basketball Association teams for preseason training camps.
