Hayden Hui Earns Second Career All-Region Honor

LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the second consecutive year, Hayden Hui of the University of California San Diego men's golf team has earned All-West Region honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Hui, a senior structural engineering major, was UC San Diego's top finisher in four of the team's six tournaments and was the lone Triton to play in all 18 rounds over the abbreviated 2019-20 season.

Another Academic Honor for Hayden Hui!

Hui compiled a 73.4 stroke average, shooting eight rounds of par or better, which included a 68 in the third round of the NCAA Division I Bill Cullum Invitational. His best finish was a tie for fourth of 87 players at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Hawai'i. Hui also had top 20 placings at the Fujikura Invitational and the Bill Cullum Invitational. Along with teammate and classmate Jacob Johnson, he tied for 15th at the Fujikura Invitational to help lead the Tritons to their first tournament victory since 2016.

Hui was ranked 94th nationally among all NCAA Division II golfers.

UC San Diego placed in the top 10 in five of six events and was ranked No. 23 nationally in February. The Tritons, who placed second at the 2019 NCAA West/South Central Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships, had their season end early this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, Hui was selected PING/GCAA All-America honorable mention as well as PING/GCAA All-West Region.

From day one, Hayden has set a great example of how to work hard and compete at a high level on and off the course. Off the course, Hayden is an A-student who was an All-American Scholar and will surely be one again this year. On the course, Hayden's inner strength and competitiveness comes out every time we compete or practice. He shows up early for practice and stays late. The respect he gets from his teammates is the highest praise any collegiate athlete can receive. They look up to him and do their best to follow his example. I will be forever thankful for Hayden's contributions towards changing the team's culture.
