No. 7 Tritons Top Division I Foe Villanova

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 7 University of California San Diego men's tennis team fought hard to edge Villanova, 4-3, at Northview Tennis Courts this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Phillip Lan and Sreeganesh Manoharan were the first ones off the court in doubles, taking a 6-3 triumph over their Villanova counterparts. However, Villanova was able to secure the doubles point with wins on the second and third courts.
 
Villanova extended its lead with a win at third singles, but the Tritons fought back. Manoharan cruised to victory, 6-3, 6-1, to put UC San Diego on the scoreboard. Then, Lan prevailed, 7-5, 6-1 to even the score.
 
With a win at sixth singles, Marius Ruh gave the Tritons the lead. Ruh took down his Wildcat opponent, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
 
After a Wildcat victory at fifth singles to bring the score to 3-3, it all came down to second singles. Sahm Irvine bounced back from a narrow loss in the first set to clinch the win for the Tritons, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

UP NEXT
Next, the Tritons will remain at home. UC San Diego will take on Ball State at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Northview Tennis Courts.
