KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UC San Diego guard
Tyrell Roberts has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches' Division II All-America Team, it was announced Tuesday. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division II, these student-athletes represent the most outstanding basketball players across America in NCAA Division II.
Roberts is one of 16 players nationwide named to the team, and the redshirt sophomore is the second Triton to earn an All-America honor since the team elevated to NCAA Division II status for the 2000-01 season. Center
Chris Hansen was named to the NABC All-America Team last season.
Roberts adds the All-America accolade to his list of several major awards won this year including California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Most Valuable Player, CCAA Tournament MVP, NABC All-West District First Team, Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) West Region Player of the Year, D2CCA All-West Region First Team, All-CCAA First Team, and CCAA All-Tournament Team. In addition, he is listed on the most recent Bevo Francis Award Watch List, which included the top 25 candidates for the best player in small college basketball.
Roberts led all CCAA players in scoring (18.9 points per game) three-point field goals per game 3.41), three-point field goal percentage (46.3%), and free throw percentage (87.3%) in league games en route to earning CCAA MVP honors. The Sacramento native ranked eighth nationally in three-point field goals per game (3.58) and three-point field goal percentage (46.3%). Overall this season, Roberts led the CCAA in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game.
Roberts established a new UC San Diego record for most three-point field goals in a season (111) and, in just his second season, became the fourth 1,000-point scorer on this year's roster.
Roberts earned CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player honors to his resume after leading the Tritons to their fourth straight conference tournament crown. He set a CCAA Tournament record for single-game scoring when he dropped 45 in a semifinal win over Cal State East Bay.
With the cancellation of this year's NCAA Tournament, the Tritons finished their Division II era with a 30-1 record and No. 4 national ranking. UC San Diego will begin a four-year transition to Division I and the Big West Conference beginning this summer.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches
Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Forrest "Phog" Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education. Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at
