Tritons Come Up Short at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Playing without two senior starters, the University of California San Diego women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match at future Big West Conference rival UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon. The win evened the Highlanders' record at 3-3, while the Tritons fell to 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons duo of freshman Anjni Agrawal and freshman Rachel Wagner earned a 7-6 (5) victory at No. 2 doubles, but the Highlanders took the other two doubles showdowns to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
In singles play, UC San Diego freshman Rachel Wagner got the Tritons on the board with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. However, that was the only victory for the visitors on the afternoon.
 
UC San Diego played without senior captains Becky Chou and Valeria Corral on Saturday. Chou had been starting at No. 1 singles and Corral at No. 4.

"We played a very competitive match," said UC San Diego coach Liz LaPlante. "It was nice to see the freshmen playing with more confidence, and it showed with their competitive outings."
