Several Records Fall in Tritons' Win at San Marcos in Regular Season Finale

UC San Diego matches school record with 27th win

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The fourth-ranked UC San Diego men's basketball team ran its win streak to 19 games as the Tritons wrapped up the regular season with a 99-86 victory at Cal State San Marcos in The Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. With the win, UC San Diego matches a school record with its 27th win of the season. The Tritons enter next week's CCAA tournament with a 27-1 overall record, concluding conference play at 21-1.

The 99 points scored by the Tritons established a new season high.

Sophomore guard Tyrell Roberts and senior forward Christian Oshita each surpassed 500 points scored this season in the win, and both passed Drew Dyer in the UC San Diego record book to establish a new mark for three-point field goals made in a season. Roberts has knocked down 95 three-pointers and Oshita has drained 94 from beyond the arc. Dyer connected on 92 for the Tritons in 2015-16.

Oshita finished with a game-high 27 points while Roberts poured in 22 in the win.

With Saturday's victory, UC San Diego improved to 14-0 on the road this season and 16-0 in games played away from home.

Roberts knocked down an early three-pointer to tie the score at 15-15 with 14:14 left in the first half. That gave Roberts 501 points on the season. The Tritons took a 20-17 lead with 11:33 on the clock. Oshita had six points at that point, and UC San Diego was aided by a key blocked shot off the bench from senior center Chris Hansen.

With 8:54 left in the half, Roberts knocked down a three to give the Tritons a 30-24 advantage. UC San Diego built its largest lead of the half at 10 points when junior guard Mikey Howell found Hansen who buried a three.

UC San Diego led 50-42 at the half. Senior forward Scott Everman, junior guard Gabe Hadley, and Roberts led the way with 10 points apiece. Oshita scored nine. As a team, the Tritons shot 61% (19-31) and sank nine 3-pointers. UC San Diego held an 18-12 rebounding advantage over the game's first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Oshita stretched the Tritons' advantage to 13 when he put back a miss with a slam dunk, giving the visitors a 60-47 lead with 16:22 to play. Oshita began to heat up as the Tritons stretched the lead. Not to be outdone, Roberts buried back-to-back shots from long range, and the Tritons led 82-67 with 7:00 left.

With 3:43 remaining in the game, Roberts buried his sixth three of the game as the Tritons went up 92-74. That was UC San Diego's 15th three-pointer of the game – the 12th time the Tritons have hit 15 or more from beyond the arc this season.

Oshita and Roberts paced five Tritons in double figures. Everman hit 6-of-7 shots and finished with 14 points while Hadley added 12 and junior forward Marek Sullivan contributed 11. Oshita posted his fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 rebounds Saturday.

The Trtions shot 59% in the win, including 44% (16-36) from beyond the arc. UC San Diego scored 40 points in the paint and held a 35-24 rebounding advantage in the win.
