ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The No. 4 UC San Diego baseball team throttled Sonoma State 20-1 to close out the series and take the series win 3-1. The Tritons improve to 10-3 overall and 5-3 in conference.

Jo Bynum was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Brandon Stewart went 2-for-4 and stole bases twice. Marc Filia had a game high five RBIs and hit. He hit his first career home run which went for a grand slam.

The Tritons were able to take advantage of errors and pitching problems throughout the game. Sonoma State's pitching staff walked 16 Tritons and recorded three errors.

Brandon Weed led a pitching staff that recorded 14 strikeouts. Weed finished with five strikeouts and no walks to earn his second win of the season.

At the top of the first inning, the first three Tritons in the line-up were walked, forcing Sonoma to pull its starting pitcher. Anthony Lucchetti took the 1-0 pitch and popped the ball into left field for a two run RBI double to give the Tritons the 2-0 lead. Michael Fuhrman hit a single to bring Blake Baumgartner and Blake FitzGerald hit for an RBI to extend the lead to 4-0.

Shay Whitcomb added to the scoring spree in the second inning when he hit the ball to center field to increase the lead to 5-0. Blake FitzGerald would add an RBI walk and Everett Lau would hit for an RBI in the following inning to increase the lead to 7-0.

The Tritons held a 11-0 lead going into the seventh inning. They put together an eight-run inning to completely put the game away. The inning was highlighted by Filia's grand slam which was the first one of the season for the Tritons.
