No. 6 Tritons Too Much for Warriors in Sixth Straight Win

TURLOCK, Calif. – Sophomore guard Tyrell Roberts scored 22 points and senior forward Christian Oshita added 20 as the sixth-ranked UC San Diego men's basketball team cruised to a 74-60 win over Stanislaus State at Fitzpatrick Arena on Thursday night. The win was No. 6 in a row for the Tritons, who are 14-1 overall and remain in first place in the CCAA at 8-1 in conference play.

The Warriors fell to 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the CCAA, remaining winless at home with an 0-3 mark on the season.

"That was a very good team we just beat on the road," said UC San Diego head coach Eric Olen. "In the first half in particular, I thought we did a really good job on both sides of ball. In the second half they came out more aggressive and dictated the pace, but in general we were able to make decisions and had some really good possessions."

Tied at 6 early on, the Tritons went on a 13-3 run thanks to a couple of 3-pointers to go up 19-9 with 11:29 on the clock in the first half. The UC San Diego defense was locked in throughout the night.

UC San Diego led 42-22 at the half, limiting the Warriors to just 31% shooting over the first 20 minutes, including 1-10 from 3-point range. The Tritons meanwhile connected on 48% of their shots and knocked down seven threes to go up 20 at the break. As they have done throughout the season, the Tritons continued to share the ball. UC San Diego registered 11 assists on 13 made field goals in the first half.

Roberts led UC San Diego with 13 first half points, including three makes from beyond the arc. Junior guard Mikey Howell scored seven, and junior forward Marek Sullivan pulled down seven rebounds.

Playing the program's final game in Turlock, the Tritons held a comfortable lead throughout the second half, as the Warriors got no closer than 12. The victory was UC San Diego's fourth consecutive win over Stanislaus State.

Roberts finished with 22 points on 7-14 shooting (5-10 3FG) with six assists and five steals. Oshita added 20 points on 6-11 shooting (5-9 3FG). Sullivan contributed 11 rebounds in the win, and junior guard Gabe Hadley scored six off the bench while adding four assists.

Collectively, the Tritons shot 44% from beyond the arc (14-32), while limiting the Warriors were just 2-for-15. The visitors dished out 19 assists on 23 made field goals.

Now 7-0 in true road games, UC San Diego wraps up its brief two-game road trip on Saturday, when the Tritons visit Humboldt State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Lumberjack Arena in Arcata.
