Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Strong Third Quarter Not Enough as No. 22 Tritons Narrowly Fall to Otters

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 22 University of California San Diego women's basketball team fell to Cal State Monterey Bay, 59-58, at RIMAC Arena this evening. With the outcome, the Tritons fall to 8-4 on the season and 4-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action. The Otters improve to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

It was a slow start for the Tritons in the first two quarters. At the half, UC San Diego trailed 33-24.

A strong third quarter started to shift the momentum though. With 3:37 left in the third quarter, Tyla Turner drained a 3-pointer to grab UC San Diego's first lead of the night (42-41) and the Tritons maintained their advantage throughout the rest of the quarter.

During the period, UC San Diego shot 8-15 (53%). Sydney Brown and Turner led the charge, with 11 and 9 points, respectively.

The Otters cut down the Tritons' lead early in the fourth quarter, leading to a tense final few minutes. Isabelle Parker's layup with 38 seconds left pulled UC San Diego within one (59-58), but the Tritons' last-second efforts were not enough to overcome the Otters.

Turner led the team with 15 points on the night, while Brown (13) and Brianna Claros (10) followed behind.

Parker collected eight rebounds, which was a team high and just one off her career high.

The Tritons will return to action at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening as they host Cal State East Bay at RIMAC Arena. UC San Diego leads the all-time series 16-7.
