LA JOLLA, Calif. – The sixth-ranked UC San Diego men's basketball team got off to a hot start and never looked back, as the Tritons rolled to a 94-72 victory over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay inside RIMAC Arena on Thursday night. UC San Diego remains atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings at 6-1, and the Tritons are 12-1 overall.

The Otters fell to 4-10 overall and 1-7 in the CCAA.

Mikey Howell just missed a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, 10 assists, and eight boards. It was Howell's first career double-double. Senior forward
Christian Oshita grabbed seven rebounds in the win, giving him 506 in his career. He became the eighth Triton in UC San Diego's Division II history to pull down 500 boards.

Playing their first game in 11 days, the Tritons showed few signs of rust. UC San Diego ran out to a 10-4 lead just 100 seconds into the game, thanks to five points apiece from Oshita and senior forward
Scott Everman. Leading 22-17, UC San Diego sprinted out on an 18-5 run to go up 40-22 with 6:35 in the first period.

The Tritons maintained their 18-point advantage, leading 52-34 at the half. Oshita had 19 points to lead all scorers in the first. Sophomore guard
Tyrell Roberts added 11, and Everman poured in 10 for the home team. UC San Diego shot 67% in the first half, connecting on 21-of-31 field goal tries. The Tritons out-rebounded the Otters, 12-9.

In the second half, the Tritons continued to pour it on, finishing with more than 90 points for the fourth time this season. Eleven UC San Diego players saw action in the win, a game in which the Tritons never trailed.

Oshita finished with a game-high 27 points on 10-15 shooting. Everman scored a season-high 20, and Roberts had 13. The Tritons shot 58% for the game, while sinking 11 three-pointers on the way to their fourth straight win.
UC San Diego returns to action on Saturday night, when the Tritons host Cal State East Bay. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:02 p.m. from RIMAC Arena, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
