LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego women's basketball team (RV) captured a 63-50 win over Cal State San Bernardino on UC San Diego Health Sciences Night at RIMAC Arena.
With the victory, the Tritons extend their win streak to five. They improve to 13-4 on the season and 9-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Meanwhile, the Coyotes fall to 1-14 overall and 1-11 in conference action.
The Tritons came out strong in the first quarter. UC San Diego shot 50% (9-18) in the first 10 minutes to grab an early 24-12 lead.
UC San Diego faltered in the second quarter as the Coyotes managed to cut the lead, but the Tritons got back on track in the third quarter. The Tritons' defensive efforts held the Coyotes to just nine points in the third period, while UC San Diego put up 16.
The Coyotes managed to narrow the deficit once again during the fourth quarter, but it was too late as the Tritons went on to secure a 63-50 win.
Julia Macabuhay finished the night with a team-best 16 points. Macabuhay also dished out eight assists, more than the entire Coyote team combined.
Sydney Brown recorded a new career high with 11 rebounds on the night. She also contributed nine points to the Tritons' efforts.
Stephanie Moore collected a new career best as well. Her eight rebounds were a new top collegiate mark, while her nine points tied her career high.
It was also a career night for
Layla Ybarra-Harvey, who put up a career-best six points in nine minutes of action.
Brianna Claros and
Sydney Sharp each scored eight points in the win.
Next, UC San Diego will hit the road. The Tritons will face San Francisco State at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in San Francisco.
