LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego women's tennis team fell 5-2 in its exhibition opener against future Division I foe Nevada on Thursday afternoon at Northview Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego senior Becky Chou and freshman Rachel Wagner won a hard-fought first doubles set, 7-6, but by that time Nevada had taken the doubles point by earning victories at second and third doubles (6-4, 6-4).
 
In singles, Wagner at fourth singles and fellow newcomer Sophie Pearson (fifth singles) earned points for the Tritons.
 
QUOTABLE
"The team played great and competed hard," said UC San Diego head coach Liz LaPlante, now coaching in her 41st season. "I'm very proud of our effort overall, and the freshmen were particularly impressive."

UP NEXT
The Tritons return to the courts next weekend for a pair of exhibition matches against Division I opponents. UC San Diego visits Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Jan. 25, and San Diego State on Sunday, Jan. 26. Both matches are slated for Noon starts.
