LA JOLLA, Calif. – Senior forward
Christian Oshita scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the fifth-ranked UC San Diego men's basketball team proved too much for No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona. The Tritons posted a 69-57 win in front of 2,331 on Spirit Night at RIMAC Arena to post their eighth consecutive win.

UC San Diego is off to the best start in program history at 16-1 (10-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association). The Broncos (12-4 overall, 8-3 CCAA) had their four-game win streak snapped.

Things got going quickly on the offensive end for the home team. Senior forward
Scott Everman scored five quick points and junior forward
Marek Sullivan threw down a left-handed jam as the Tritons built an early 10-6 advantage. Minutes later, UC San Diego extended its lead thanks to a 17-2 spurt to go up 27-10 with 7:23 left in the half.

Everman punctuated a strong first half with a turnaround baseline jumper as time expired, and the Tritons led 41-21 at halftime.

Everman was the Tritons' leading scorer over the first 20 minutes with 15 points. Oshita added 11 points and seven rebounds and junior guard
Mikey Howell had four assists.

As a team, the Tritons buried eight of their 13 field goal tries from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half.

UC San Diego built a 49-27 lead on an Everman layup with 15:04 to play. The Broncos then used a 13-3 run over the next three-plus minutes to draw within 12 at 52-40. However, the Broncos got no closer than nine the rest of the way as the Tritons earned their 10th conference win in 11 tries.

Everman and Oshita each finished with 22 points to pace the Tritons. For Everman, it was a season high. Meanwhile, Oshita notched his third double-double of the season. He was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.

As a team, the Tritons shot 50% (26-52) overall – the ninth time this season they have shot 50% or better from the floor. UC San Diego connected on 50% (9-18) of its three-point attempts. The Tritons dished out 19 assists on 26 made field goals.
UC San Diego returns to RIMAC Arena Saturday night, when the Tritons host Cal State San Bernardino on Health Sciences Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:02 p.m. from La Jolla, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
