LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 21 University of California San Diego women's basketball team topped conference foe Chico State, 64-47, at RIMAC Arena on Thursday evening. With the win, UC San Diego improves to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. The Wildcats fall to an even 4-4 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
After a back and forth first quarter, Chico State narrowly led 15-14 at the end of the first period. The teams continued to battle at the start of the second quarter, but the Tritons took over in the final six minutes, outscoring the Wildcats 16-2 during that crucial stretch.
Sydney Sharp led the charge, draining three shots from beyond the arc. Throughout the entirety of the second quarter, UC San Diego outscored Chico State 21-6.
The teams both put up 12 points in the third quarter. In the fourth, UC San Diego outscored the Wildcats 17-14 to extend its lead. The Tritons never relinquished their advantage in the latter two quarters, coming away with the victory.
Julia Macabuhay continued to be a force to be reckoned with this season, scoring a game-high 19 points on the night.
Isabelle Parker put up a collegiate-best 14 points and also topped her career high with a game-high nine rebounds. She finished the night 6-for-12.
Sharp, who was critical in gaining the lead for the Tritons, also put up double-digit points in the win, scoring 13. Sharp and
Tyla Turner collected eight rebounds apiece.
Next, UC San Diego will hit the road and head to Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Tritons will battle the Toros at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17.
