LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 22 University of California San Diego women's basketball team captured a 56-34 victory over Sonoma State at RIMAC Arena this afternoon. With the win, UC San Diego improves to 8-2 on the season and 4-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. Sonoma State falls to 7-4 overall and an even 3-3 in conference action.
Over 550 students from the San Diego community enthusiastically cheered on the Tritons as UC San Diego held its annual Field Trip Day.
The Tritons held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter, and a strong defensive effort in the second quarter allowed them to increase their lead. Holding the Seawolves to just two points in the second quarter, UC San Diego put up 16 to carry a 29-12 advantage into halftime.
The two teams were even with 13 points apiece in the third quarter, but the Tritons increased their lead in the fourth quarter. With 14 points in the final 10 minutes, UC San Diego cruised to a 56-34 victory.
The Seawolves' 34-point effort was the lowest by a Triton opponent since UC San Diego defeated San Francisco State 93-34 on Jan. 7, 2016.
Julia Macabuhay's 15 points were a game high, and she was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line while nailing three of her four 3-point attempts.
Sydney Brown was the Tritons' rebound leader, collecting nine on the afternoon while also contributing eight points.

The Tritons will return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday, as they take on Cal Poly Pomona at Kellogg Arena. The game is UC San Diego's final contest of 2019.
