No. 14 Tritons Fall to Hawaii Pacific (RV) to Conclude Thanksgiving Classic

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The No. 14 University of California San Diego women's basketball team fell to Hawaii Pacific (RV), 73-64, at the Malika Sports Tours Oahu Thanksgiving Classic this afternoon. With the outcome, UC San Diego moves to 5-2 on the season, while the Sharks improve to 5-1.

It was a slow start for the Tritons in the first quarter, as they were unable to get on the scoreboard until 2:29 remained in the period, but a pair of three-pointers by Julia Macabuhay and Brianna Claros helped them pull within four. UC San Diego trailed 12-8 heading into the second quarter.

Three minutes into the second quarter, Emily Cangelosi drained a three as well to tie the contest. The Sharks regained their lead, but the Tritons were on their heels throughout the quarter. As time expired, Claros' shot from beyond the arc went in to give the Tritons their first lead of the afternoon. They led 25-24 at halftime.

It was back and forth throughout the third quarter, but the Sharks were able to take back the lead. Outscoring the Tritons 25-20 in the third quarter, the Sharks held a 49-45 advantage heading into the final period.

Despite putting up 19 points in the fourth quarter, the Tritons were unable to top the Sharks. UC San Diego ultimately fell 73-64.

Four Tritons put up double-digit points during the contest. Julia Macabuhay led the team with 16 points and was followed by Sydney Sharp (14) who also recorded 11 rebounds. Tyla Turner and Brianna Claros followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
