CCAA TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOT
All eight spots for next week's CCAA Tournament are spoken for. From the South Division, it's Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State LA, UC San Diego, and Cal State San Marcos. From the North, Stanislaus State, San Francisco State, Chico State, and Sonoma State are in. Undefeated and top ranked Cal State San Bernardino will serve as the No. 1 seed with all other seeds to be determined following this week's play. The tourney runs Nov. 21-23 at San Bernardino's Coussoulis Arena. The winner gets an automatic spot in the NCAA Tournament.

NCAA WEST REGION RANKINGS
The second NCAA West Region rankings of the season were released Wednesday. UC San Diego moved up one spot into No. 4. The top eight teams from the region qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the CCAA Tournament earns the region's lone automatic berth as the GNAC and PacWest do not run conference tourneys.

WINNING
The Tritons' 17 victories are their most since going 20-12 in 2015. Their 11 conference wins are the most since compiling a 14-6 mark, also in 2015. The team went 10-2 inside RIMAC Arena this year, its top home record since 2013 (13-2).

RECEIVING VOTES
UC San Diego is receiving votes in the most recent AVCA National Poll, which was released Monday. It's the first time this season that the Tritons have been listed.

AROUND THE COUNTRY
Nationally, Jessica Rieble ranks sixth in hitting percentage (.414), 36th in blocks/set (1.2), and 64th in total blocks (98). As a team, UC San Diego ranks 42nd in hitting percentage (.233), 44th in blocks/set (2.2), 62nd in kills/set (13.1), 66th in assists/set (12.1), and 81st in aces/set (1.7).

CASTANEDA NETS WEEKLY CCAA HONOR
Trinity Castaneda is the reigning CCAA Player of the Week as the conference announced its selection Tuesday. Castaneda led UC San Diego in kills (30), points (32), and hitting percentage (.519) as the Tritons posted a perfect 2-0 mark without dropping a set in both of its conference matches last week at RIMAC Arena. In a sweep of 24th-ranked Cal State LA, the sophomore outside hitter had a match high 16 kills, one short of her career best, while hitting .625. The victory over the Golden Eagles clinched UC San Diego a berth in the CCAA Tournament. The following night, Castaneda totaled 14 kills, three blocks, and two digs while hitting .433 in sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills. It is the third time this season that a Triton has earned the accolade as Jessica Rieble was honored in September and October.

SHINING STAR
Jessica Rieble was tabbed a Star of the Month for October by the San Diego Sports Association. Rieble hit .462 and averaged 3.7 points, 2.9 kills, and 1.1 blocks per set - all team bests - over nine matches in October. In her best outing of the month, the senior middle blocker put down a career high 19 kills and matched her career best with 23 points in a home win against conference opponent Stanislaus State. It is Rieble's second Star of the Month accolade as she was honored in August of 2018.

RIEBLE TABBED NATIONAL AND CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
On Oct. 22, Jessica Rieble was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week as well as the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week. Rieble had a monster week, leading UC San Diego to a pair of conference victories at home. The senior middle blocker posted team highs in kills (29), kills/set (4.1), hitting percentage (.591), blocks (9), blocks/set (1.3), points (34), and points/set (4.9). Rieble established new career-highs with 19 kills and 23 points in a four set win against Stanislaus State. She hit .692, the best by any Triton this season, and added six blocks versus the Warriors. The night prior, Rieble had 10 kills and three blocks with a .444 hitting percentage as UC San Diego swept Chico State. Rieble entered the matches with a .406 hitting percentage, which ranked fifth nationally. Following the wins, she upped that number to .433, the third-best in the country. Rieble is just the second Triton to ever earn the AVCA's weekly honor and the first since the program moved to NCAA Division II status in 2000. Christine Chi garnered the award in 1995 when UC San Diego was competing at the Division III level. It is the second CCAA weekly award in Rieble's career as she also won it on Sept. 17 of this season.

THE REIS CUP
On Oct. 4, UC San Diego defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-1, in the seventh annual Reis Cup. The event is named in remembrance of former Triton volleyball player Karen Reis (2006-09), who passed away in 2012. Sydney Tekstra collected her third double double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs. She hit .320 and added four blocks en route to being named the Reis Cup MVP. The win moved the Tritons to 5-2 in Reis Cup matches.

RIEBLE EARNS FIRST WEEKLY CCAA HONOR OF CAREER
Senior Jessica Rieble was named the CCAA Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Sept. 17 for the first time in her career. Rieble helped lead UC San Diego to a tournament best 4-0 record at the six team West Region Showcase in La Jolla. Over the four matches at RIMAC Arena, Rieble hit .440 while averaging 3.7 points, 2.7 kills, 1.3 blocks, and 1.1 digs per set. Her hitting percentage and blocking average ranked second among all tourney players. Rieble totaled 16 points against Concordia University Irvine and 10.5 points vs. Saint Martin's, both match highs. Nine of her 20 blocks came against Concordia with that total just one short of her career high. The Pleasanton, Calif., native was named to the all-tournament team for her outstanding performances. UC San Diego posted victories over Saint Martin's, Montana State Billings, Concordia, and Academy of Art.

TEKSTRA NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
Senior Sydney Tekstra has been named to two all-tournament teams already this season, garnering the honor at UC San Diego's West Region Showcase as well as the Seawolf Invitational at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

CHASE THE ACE
UC San Diego put down 14 service aces against Concord on Sept. 6. That was the team's most in 10 years since accumulating the same number against Saginaw Valley State back in 2009.

MOVIN' ON UP
UC San Diego is in its 20th and final year playing as an NCAA Division II team and as a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). In July of 2020, the entire athletics program will begin a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of the Big West Conferencefor the 2024-25 academic year. At that time, all sports will be eligible for conference and NCAA postseason play. During the transition, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and men's and women's fencing remain eligible for postseason as those teams currently compete against Division I programs for a combined-division national championship.

NEW LOOKS FOR THE CCAA
New this season in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), volleyball will crown a regular season champion as well as a tournament victor. The top four teams in each of the two divisions earn a spot in the tourney bracket, with seeding determined by CCAA winning percentage rather than by regional demarcations, also new for 2019. The winner of the tourney, which will be hosted by Cal State San Bernardino Nov. 21-23, earns the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship field.

HEAD COACH RICCI LUYTIES
Entering his 10th season leading the Tritons in 2019, Ricci Luyties holds a 161-91 (.639) overall record and a 117-64 (.646) mark in CCAA matches during his tenure at UC San Diego. Four times Luyties has paced UC San Diego to at least 20 victories, which includes an impressive 26-6 (.813) campaign in 2013. The Tritons have qualified for NCAA postseason play five times under Luyties, reaching the regional semifinals in four of those years. In 2010 and again in 2013, UC San Diego climbed as high as No. 8 in the national rankings. Prior to coming to La Jolla, Luyties was head coach at Southern Mississippi for six seasons. As a setter at UCLA, Luyties helped lead the Bruins to four consecutive national championships. He was named the NCAA's Most Valuable Player twice and was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame. At the international level, Luyties, alongside Karch Kiraly and Steve Timmons, won a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics. He also played on the beach for 12 years, competing on the AVP Tour and FIVB World Tour with partners such as Kiraly and Adam Johnson. For Luyties' full bio, click here.
