No. 11 UC San Diego Men's Water Polo Overwhelms Cal Lutheran, 16-6

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. —The No. 11-ranked University of California San Diego men's water polo team won its fifth-consecutive game on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Cal Lutheran, 16-6, at Samuelson Aquatics Center.

Redshirt sophomore Calder Hilde-Jones led the way for UC San Diego (6-1), finishing with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt, the reigning Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week, added two goals, two assists and two steals, and redshirt junior goalkeeper Sam Thompson added seven saves, one assist and one steal.

In addition, junior Skyler Munatones, redshirt junior Kacper Langiewicz and junior Cooper Milton scored two goals apiece, while senior Alessandro Valania and junior Noah Carniglia each recorded two assists.

The Tritons scored five goals in both the first and second periods en route to a commanding 10-4 advantage at halftime. Leading 12-5 at the end of the third, UC San Diego put the game away with fourth-quarter goals by sophomore Michael Gelnak, Langiewicz and two from Hilde-Jones.

Up next, the Tritons play at No. 7 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday afternoon beginning at noon.
