18 Treys Lead UCSD to 88-67 Win Against Humboldt State

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Scott Everman netted a career-high 28 points and the University of California San Diego men's basketball team drained 18 three-pointers en route to an 88-67 victory against Humboldt State Saturday night at RIMAC Arena.

The win moved first place UC San Diego to 16-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), its most league victories since joining the conference for the 2000-01 season. Overall, UCSD improved to 21-5 with its sixth consecutive win.

Everman hit eight three-pointers on the night, seven of those coming in the first half. The freshman forward was 10-for-21 overall and 8-for-15 from beyond the arc. In the opening stanza, he was 7-for-8 from long range.

Everman's eight three-pointers were the most by a Triton since Robbie Peters hit 13 against Cal State Monterey Bay in March of 2007. The 28 points were the most since Drew Dyer went for 29 against Chico State in January of 2015.

Senior guard Koree Cox also recorded a career-high with 17 points, 15 of those coming on three-pointers. Adam Klie, also a senior guard, totaled 13 points and sophomore guard/forward Christian Oshita grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds.

UCSD, which led the entire game, shot 46 percent (33-72) overall and 60 percent (18-30) in the first half. The 18 threes came on 38 attempts, 47 percent. In the first, the Tritons were 13-for-19 from behind the line, good for a 68 percent clip.

The 18 three-pointers were the most for UCSD since hitting 18 in the 2007 game against CSUMB. The Tritons made 19 against Chico State in 2004.

Nikhil Lizotte scored 19 points for HSU (13-13, 7-11), which hit 11 three-pointers of its own. Malik Morgan had 14 points for the Lumberjacks.

The Tritons led by as many as 29 points midway through the second half.

Along with Cox and Klie, it was also the final regular season home game for senior guard Aleks Lipovic.

UCSD closes its regular season on the road, playing at Cal State San Bernardino (11-12, 7-11) on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. A win would earn the Tritons at least a share of the CCAA regular season title, which would be a program first.

Following Thursday's game, UCSD will host a CCAA Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. with its opponent yet to be determined.
