SAN FRANCISCO - Down early, the 22nd-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team came back to defeat No. 25 Academy of Art, 5-4, Saturday at the San Francisco Tennis Club. It was the third-straight win for the Tritons.
Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, UCSD won four of the six singles matches to claim the narrow victory. The Tritons improved to 9-8 while the Knights dropped to 6-10.
The deciding fifth point was earned by Kyra Scott at No. 1 singles. The senior, ranked 31st nationally, defeated Taisiia Andrieieva in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-2. Scott has come out on top in her last eight singles matches.
UC San Diego's other three singles victories also came in straight sets. Britta Mosser (No. 2), Ashley Chao (No. 4) and Alexandra Weil (No. 5) all won their third consecutive matches. Mosser moved to 10-4 and took over the team lead for singles wins.
The freshman team of Weil and Madison Hale picked up UCSD's doubles point, downing Paula Alcantara and Michelle Dandik, 8-4, at No. 3. The tandem is 13-4 this season and currently riding a five-match win streak.
The 25th-ranked duo of Mosser and Scott were defeated at No. 1 doubles, falling to Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp.
UC San Diego concludes a four-match road trip at No. 24 Sonoma State on March 27 at 11 a.m.
