MONMOUTH, Ore. - Adam Klie scored a career-high 25 points to lead the University of California San Diego men's basketball team to a 66-57 victory against Concordia (Ore.) Friday in DoubleTree D2 Shootout action at Western Oregon University.
Klie was on fire all night, making 10 of 15 shots from the field while producing nine rebounds to go along with six assists, both game-highs. The senior guard scored 14 points in the first half.
Sophomore guard Christian Oshita completed his outing with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting with two three-pointers. He and junior guard George Buaku each grabbed six rebounds with Buaku adding three steals.
UCSD shot 48 percent (27-56) for the game while CU finished at 44 percent (24-54). The Tritons held a 35-30 advantage in rebounds and turned the ball over just seven times all night.
"It's great to get a win away from home," said UCSD head coach Eric Olen. "Being able to find a way when we aren't quite at our best is important, and I thought we did that tonight."
With the score tied 22-22 at the 4:15 mark of the first half, Klie made good on a pair of free throws to put the Tritons back in front and they would lead the rest of the way.
CU got back within two points on three occasions in the second half, the final time coming with 9:06 left in the game. However, UCSD steadily increased its lead once again and was up by 10 points (59-49) when Michael Shoemaker drained a three with 3:15 remaining.
The Cavaliers had three players score in double figures including Drew Martin (15), Latrell Wilson (13) and Christopher Edward (10). Edward had eight boards.
UCSD remains undefeated at 4-0 while CU fell to 1-2. It was the first-ever meeting between the Tritons and Cavaliers.
UC San Diego faces Western Oregon Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
