Senior Night Spoiled by Five-Set Loss to No. 18 Cal State San Bernardino

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The five-set match struggles continued for the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team Saturday as it suffered a 3-2 loss to 18th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino at RIMAC Arena. Scores of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tilt were 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19 and 15-10.

UC San Diego, which is now 1-5 this season in five-set contests, dropped to 12-10 overall and 9-5 in the CCAA. CSUSB won its eighth consecutive match to move to 17-4 and 11-2 and retain its first-place position in the league's South Division.

The Coyotes dominated offensively, hitting .238 (68-23-189) to the Tritons' .170 (59-28-182). They also held a substantial, 19-11 advantage in blocks.

Three Tritons finished with double-digit kills including Meagan Wright (16), Rebecca Seaberry (13) and Jessyca Beksa (11). Wright notched her 16th double-double of the season by adding 17 digs. She hit .325 while contributing five assists, four blocks and a service ace. Seaberry hit .379 with five blocks and Beksa had four aces.

For the Coyotes, Lauren Nicholson, who leads the conference in kills, finished with a match-high 22.5 points on 18 kills, two aces and four blocks (one solo). Abbey Vollkommer amassed 30 digs and Hailey Jackson was a force at the net, collecting 11 blocks (one solo).

UCSD finished with a season-high 10 service aces.

Cal State San Bernardino has won 14 of the last 16 meetings with UC San Diego, which includes a 3-2 victory on Oct. 14 at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.

It was the final career home match for seniors Wright and Shaelyn Perez.

UCSD wraps up its regular season with three road matches, playing at Chico State (Nov. 4), Stanislaus State (Nov. 5) and Cal State San Marcos (Nov. 12).

The Tritons are in third place in the CCAA South Division, while Chico State (17-6, 11-3) sits atop the North Divison. Stanislaus State (10-13, 7-7) and Cal State San Marcos (14-9, 7-7) are fourth in their respective divisions.
