The University of California San Diego men's and women's cross country teams will travel to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park in Ontario. The men's 8k will start at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at 11 a.m.

Site: Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park 
Terrain: The course features mostly grass and dirt trails.

NATIONAL RANKING
The UCSD men and women are ranked 12th and 24th, respectively, in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll. For full national rankings, click here.

THE FIELD
The field is comprised of CCAA members. The men's field features three top-25 teams in No. 4 Chico State, No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 12 UC San Diego. Ninth-ranked Chico State and No. 24 UC San Diego are the two schools that are nationally rated on the women's side.

Here is the full list of schools competing:

Men's 8k: No. 4 Chico State, No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona, No. 12 UC San Diego, San Francisco State, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Monterey Bay, Stanislaus State, Humboldt state, Cal State San Marcos

Women's 6k: No. 9 Chico State, No. 24 UC San Diego, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State East Bay, Cal State LA, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Stanislaus State, Humboldt State, San Francisco State, Sonoma State, Cal State San Marcos

HISTORY LESSON
The UCSD men's cross country team has never won the CCAA championship. The Chico State men have won the event for the last 14 years, dating back to 2002. The last time the women took the conference trophy was in 2005. The Chico State women have worn the CCAA crown the last eight years, starting in 2008. The UCSD women finished second, men fifth, in last year's conference championships. The Tritons had three earn All-CCAA honorees in Paige Hughes, Corinne Hinkle and Karina Carstens

HEAD COACH NATE GARCIA
Former Triton student-athlete Nate Garcia is in his 10th season as head coach of the UCSD cross country program. He took over the reins in 2007 after spending five seasons as an assistant coach. Garcia was a four-year letterwinner in cross country and track at UCSD from 1996-2000. He earned numerous athletic and academic honors, including All-Academic District VIII and CCAA All-Academic accolades in 2000-01.

LOCAL REPRESENTATION
This season's rosters feature many student-athletes from the San Diego area. The men's list includes Nick Famolaro (San Diego/West Hills HS), Aren Johnson (San Diego/Army Navy Academy), Brendan Gee (Rancho Bernardo/Rancho Bernardo HS) and Burak Tufekci (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS). Women hailing from San Diego County include Raélene deArmas (Chula Vista/Bonita Vista Senior HS), Alexandra Hernandez (El Cajon/Granite Hills HS), Christa Kloha (San Diego/Westview HS), Kristin Semancsin (San Diego/Valhalla HS) and Ella Verhees (San Diego/Point Loma HS).

UP NEXT
The Tritons will have two weeks off before traveling to Billings, Mont. for the NCAA West Regionals and try to earn the right to go to the NCAA Championships.
