SAN DIEGO - The UC San Diego women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches, but ultimately fell, 6-1, against the University of San Diego Saturday at the Hogan Tennis Center.
UCSD took the doubles point, but USD went on to win all six singles contests in straight sets.
At No. 2 doubles, Ashley Chao and Shannon Theisen blanked Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic, 6-0. Freshmen Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil were also winners, downing Colomba DiFilippo and Maria Torres Draxl, 6-3, at No. 3.
In the top doubles spot, the 18th-ranked duo of Britta Mosser and Kyra Scott was defeated by Dana Oppinger and Drew Spinosa, 6-2.
In singles play, Scott, ranked 28th, lost to Stojanovic, 6-2 and 6-0 at No. 1.
UCSD is ranked 18th in NCAA Division II, while USD is unranked in Division I. It was the second-straight match against a DI team for the Tritons, who lost at Cal State Fullerton Wednesday.
UC San Diego opens its home season on Jan. 27 when it hosts San Diego Christian at 2 p.m.
